My wife and I are travelling.
We met a woman named, Lisa, who said her birth father was Erby Meeks.
He has passed away but his brother still is alive.
Both were pedal steel players.
If I remember rightly, Erby, toured with Barbara Mandrell.
She suggested we look him up via google.
I have had no success.
Can somebody help? _________________ At long last, July 14, 2011 and I have a musical instrument I CAN play.

Hello Hans.
Barbara Mandrell's father's name was Irby Mandrell. He passed in 2009, but I know of no steel players who toured with her by that, or a similar name. Perhaps Paul Franklin will comment since he toured with Barbara and most likely would know.
Here is the information I found on Mr. Meeks.
Erbie Lee Meeks, age 86, of Caddo Gap, Arkansas died Wednesday, March 6, 2013. He was born on August 22, 1926 in Montgomery County, the son of Lee Monroe Meeks and Fannie Ellen Greene Meeks. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Meeks. A United States Army veteran, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He was a Christian and loved the Lord. He also loved music and was a talented musician. He is survived by two daughters, Sherry Miller of California and Lisa Garcia of Mount Ida; three brothers, Lonnie Meeks of Norman, Joe Meeks and Jack Meeks both of California; two sisters, Ruby King of California and Sarah Arlene Foshee of Mount Ida; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his cousin and friend, Necia Yehia of Canada; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 10, 2013, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Bro. Tim Love officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the McKinney Cemetery near Mount Ida. Pallbearers will be Rip Meeks, Danny Scrimshire, James Scrimshire, John McCoy, Billy Wisner and Bob Freeman. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
Hope this answers your questions Hans.

Thanx Craig.
It was Lisa Garcia that we met.
She and her husband, Jay, had been at the Quartzsite, AZ. Rock Show.
They were there to sell rocks.
Unfortuneatly, the question as to whether Erbie Meeks played steel for Mandrell is still not answered. _________________ At long last, July 14, 2011 and I have a musical instrument I CAN play.

Hans,
If any of the Nashville players see this thread they would probably know for sure.
Hope you're enjoying your trip, you're quite a long way from home.
Sincerely,

I was contacted by Necia, a relative of Erbie Meeks.
She confirmed that Erbie had played for Mandrell.
She was not clear on how long he worked with her.
She will let me know when she gets more info. _________________ At long last, July 14, 2011 and I have a musical instrument I CAN play.

What a coincidence Hans, Imagine having a dad named Irby and a steel player named Erbie. Wonder if Herby Wallace ever worked for Barbara?

Although I haven't seen him in years, I am friends with his brother Joe. I always thought it was Herby Meeks. Shows what I know. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . herby lived in glenwood, arkansas.
i understand that he retired from california and came back to his birthplace of glenwood and pike county arkansas.
i think he still has family there.
since your traveling the arkansas diamond mine at murphreesboro, just south of glenwood would be worth the trip.
'specially if you found a diamond. and, that happens a lot. real diamonds.
