Suzi Bogus
Someday Soon

I've always loved this song.

Great steel. Don't know the steelers name.

I'll never get over the Judy Collins version with Buddy Emmons, James Burton and Steve Stills (on bass!) from 1969:

I think it's Bucky Baxter on steel, formerly in Bob Dylan's band and I think Ted Hewitt on electric guitar, who went on to produce Rodney Atkins few hits.

Thanks Tommy!

Love your steel playing! Who doesn't!?
You did a stellar performance on Night Life, at the Big E event.
I believe that was you.
And when you played the Don Helms parts, not long ago, on non-pedal steel.
That was so cool. Hope my memory is serving me well here!?

Take care...& God bless,
David Rupert

Speaking of "Someday Soon," I enjoyed Cindy Cashdollar's playing on that this past Saturday evening in Sebastopol with Sylvia Tyson. She was on her Remington D-8 non-pedal and Cindy is so smooth you don't even miss the pedals. Big crowd for Sylvia Tyson, but an old crowd - I'm pushin' 60 and I think I was in the youngest 20%.

I would have enjoyed seeing Suzy Bogguss last week in Berkeley (as opposed to Suzi Bogus), but ya can't see 'em all.

I always felt that Suzy Bogguss' version of Someday Soon was the best since the Judy Collins track from '69 with Buddy and James. I never really cared much for the several other attempts.
Just saw Suzy last Wednesday. She still sings like a bird and was travelling with Charlie Chadwick on upright bass and Chris Scruggs on acoustic, Tele and Fender deluxe 8 with a trapezoid pick up. Chris played pedal "steelish" parts on Someday Soon and a few others that would have called for pedal steel. Great show. Suzy plays great rhythm and finger style acoustic and of course Chris Scruggs is an incredible tasty player.

I guess I am living in a cave as well. Never heard of him either, but HAVE heard his playing. He has a pretty impressive discography. Always liked Suzy Boguss version of Someday Soon a little better than the wonderful original version. It was a bit more "country" to my ears, and I liked the vibrant tone and timbre of the steel ... bob

Obviously no big deal about the misspelling, but Suzy probably got her share of harassment in middle school with a name like Bogguss and kids teasing her by pronouncing it "bogus."

She's had a good career - I guess she showed them! Winking

Was I correct, about Tommy White?
Playing Night Life @ the big E celebration?
And
His playing @ the Don Helms' honorary show?
I though it was Tommy White, on non-pedal steel, doing his steel parts? Post humilitus (sp?)
It was great non-pedal steel, via TW. I believe. Please enlighten me! Thank you!

David,
Yes, I did play "Night Life" at the Country Music Hall of Fame tribute to Buddy Emmons.
It was also me playing a tribute to Don Helms on an Opry Live televised show with Vince Gill. Vince loaned me his Gibson Console Grand to do the show with. Vince is mighty kind to us steel players!
Regarding Bucky Baxter, Bucky has been around a long time. I first met Bucky in I believe 1987 on a USO trip to Europe. He was playing with Steve Earl at the time. Fine, fine steel guitarist and great guy. I've lost track of Bucky but I'm sure he is still playing.

Bucky actually joined the Forum last year but has yet to post anything.

Another couple of Suzy faves are "Two-Step 'Round The Christmas Tree" and "Just Like The Weather" with Dan Dugmore on steel.
