Ray Montee asked me to post this up in the hopes of identifying the player and the tune. He thinks it may be Mr. Emmons. Does anyone know for certain? I know I've heard this tune before played by a guitarist, but it's kind of foggy.

I'm no expert, Mike, but even if BE played on the tune, it doesn't sound like an American recording to me. The overall tone of the cut sounds like a European "show band" to me. A little Lawrence-Welkish sounding, like Buddy Merrill, but I didn't notice any accordian.
I'll be interested to find out who it is, too. _________________ 1974 Marlen S-12 1968 Tele 1969 Martin D-35H |

I'm going to guess Lloyd Green as the player. I've heard this tune many times in the past but I can't come up with the title... |

The tune is Sweedish Rhapsody. It's one of those cases where everybody knows the melody, but almost no one knows the title. It's one of my favorite Chet Atkins recordings. To my ear, the steel guitarist is not identifible. By the way, does anyone know who played steel on Burl Ives' "Pearly Shells" or Tony Bennett's "In the middle of an island"?
ps: several versions are available on YouTube.
Wikipedia:
"There are several pop culture references to the main theme of Swedish Rhapsody No. 1:
It is played repeatedly in the 1952 short film The Stranger Left No Card.
It was arranged and recorded as a fingerstyle guitar solo in 1957 by American guitarist Chet Atkins, and became one of Atkins' best-known recordings.
Another arrangement appeared on Steve Howe's live album Not Necessarily Acoustic.
The original version of a popular song "Mah NÃ Mah NÃ " interpolates its melody.
It is featured in The Simpsons episode "Little Orphan Millie", erroneously depicting Danish culture.
The melody has been used on ice cream vans in some parts of the United Kingdom.
Ritchie Blackmore included a theme from it on the live version of Lazy found on Deep Purple's album Made in Japan]].
The melody is used throughout The Wiggles' Big Big Show.
It is featured in the 2003 American comedy drama film Matchstick Men.
An arrangement, formed from a couple of bars, was used as the interval signal for a German language numbers station as recently as 1998. As a result, the station is known as the "Swedish Rhapsody" station.
The 1953 recording by Percy Faith's and his orchestra was a national (US) Top 30 hit.
It was used as the theme for the 1954-55 TV series Willy, starring June Havoc."

I agree it sounds European, but non-British - what we'd call Continental, German maybe. Am I right that this is a non-pedal guitar with not many strings? Don't see how it can be Emmons or Green just because it's brilliant. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

I'd like to publicly thank Mike Neer for this assistance in solving this musical dilemma that I was
dealing with for a couple of months now.
It's amazing to me that one can get info' from friends and acquaintances, including strangers, from all over the world and in just a flash. AMAZING!
Thanks again.
I believe it was JERRY BYRD that played steel on Burl Ives recording of "Pearly Shells". |

Au contraire, Ray. We still don't know who the steel player was… |

Nic, the player is Basil Henriques. The Soundcloud page is my own--most of the other junk on there was played by me. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Mike,
Maybe it's my ears, but I listened closely. . . I didn't hear any "junk". Just very tasteful playing.
