A while back, Gary Lynch of MD was looking for someone to make a new picckguard for his Tutmark Audiovox lap steel. (Gary will have to chime in to tell you the age and model.) Someone had replaced the original metal guard with some clear plastic, which left the pickup and routing visible to the world. Not a very nice look!

After some research and discussion, we decided the original pickguard was some kind of etched metal, which probably didn't hold up too well. I told Gary I would replace it with a polished and chrome-plated heavy brass guard. Using the plastic guard as a template, I cut out the guard, drilled and countersunk the seventeen (17) screw holes and the "pot" hole. Then I sent it to my plating shop buddies and asked them for their best "Show-Car" polish and plating. The guard was delivered to Gary a week ago. If I can get the pictures Gary took posted, you can see the results. Please direct any questions to Gary!

Glenn,
Thanks again for offering to help me with this restoration. You did a great job with the workmanship on this new cover plate! Great fit.
I am sure there are folks on SGF that have a better handle on the history of this model but I think it is mid to late 30s. Still has the mandolin tuners.
The new cover plate makes it sound a lot better than the plastic one that was on it.

Doug, by the way, I have it tuned in a c6th and have been enjoying playing the songs from the workbook I got from you a while back.

Speaks to the fine folks and neat resources here on the Forum.. Restored guitar and the instructional material to go with it!

Thanks, Gary. I'm glad you're enjoying the book. Have fun with your Audiovox. It's a classic steel guitar!
