Since I re-rodded my old D10 pull-release I can raise the 1st string (I'm actually in B6 so it's tuned to C#). At the moment it's on P5 as a semitone raise, which is neat when using strings 1-4 but it messes up the passing note if I'm on 2-5 with 5 lowered. What's a better idea? I can hook it pretty much anywhere.

I raise C# to D on P6.
It gives you the b7 note in the upper register for your IV(7th) chord.

I put the first string raise on my pedal 8. Just pop your right foot off the volume pedal and there it is!

I have a whole tone (G > A) on the 5 pedal, maintaining the fifth on top of the 7+9 chord

Dave in terms of C6th this guy is running a D on the first string.
Again in C6th terms, I raise my G to G# on P5 (as seen in Jimmy Days setup in the link below).
I'll have to try tuning it to a whole step raise sometime.
Greg it looks like you are in line with Buddys P8.

I too am in B6th like the OP, but because I run a 12 stringer I have both the C6th D and G on top, although in B6th it's C# (raise to D on P6) and F# (raise to G on P5).

Very useful responses - thank you.

Pete - it's logical to have it on P6 to complete the IV7 chord, but what if I'm an awkward so-and-so who wants to keep the 6th/13th option open?

Greg's P8 would be great, except my P8 is next to my P5, so not quite so neat. What I have at the volume pedal end is the 3rd string semitone raise. However, it occurs to me that that could go on P8 - I only kept it separate because it seemed traditional - and then I could indeed have the 1st string raise at the right hand end.

I'm with Greg here ... I raise mine on pedal 8 -- which on my guitar is actually the first C6th pedal !

My pedal to the right of the pedal that raises 2 to F and 6 to D#, lowers 7 to G (to get a root F and to get the ninth tone out of there when I want) and I raise my top D string to D# to get the b7 along with the b7 on string 6. I use those 2 pedals together a lot.

Forgive me Richard if I'm not understanding this, but what is your string 7 tuned to before you lower it to G?

I don't raise my D string. D is the center line if you tune meantone, which I do. Since there's no changes on it, I use the D string as a reference to know whether the guitar has drifted sharp or flat due to temperature changes.

Beyond that, I don't feel the need for any changes on my D string.

b0b, I've been waiting for someone to question the need! I shall go ahead and hook it up to a spare pedal (because I can) but I'll be interested to see how much I use it.

I'll report back in a year. Will I remember? - it's my wedding anniversary, so I'd better....

I raise my D to D# on the "boo wah" pedal. It makes a nice Eb7 (open, strings 7,5,3,& 1).

I myself lower the 9th string to Eb instead of E on that pedal, so I have a low root for bigger grips too. I use it all the time!
