I envy those people who make videos and post them on YouTube. My den is so full of equipment and instruments that any video I made would be extemely messy, to say the least.
Anyone else have this problem?
Or do all other steel guitarists keep a tidy house?
Maybe it's only the tidy ones who make videos.

I posted on this subject about one year ago and was besieged with criticism.
My suggestion had merely been a subject should simply look over the area they were going to photograph and arrange a suitable backdrop, if nothing more.
I enjoy viewing the videos' in an effort to determine what the environment was like.
Some of the posters display the neatest appearing music room while others have all kinds of junque all over the place, miles of cords, and countless boxes of electronic gear.
Some are highly professional, almost studio quality. |

If the content is interesting I don't notice the background. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

The reasons why it's messy are more important than the actual "mess". If someone's dwelling is messy because of garbage and soiled clothing all over the floor; and dirty dishes and spoiled food in the kitchen, then it's a problem.
If, however, the "mess" is caused by too many instruments and amplifiers, one just needs to arrange them into a "uniform" backdrop for the video, as Ray says. Amplifiers stacked next to each other (like a music store) and guitars arranged in near rows along the wall are an acceptable backdrop for any musical video. _________________ 1974 Marlen S-12 1968 Tele 1969 Martin D-35H |

|
|
My main thrust of this post was to mention the pristine appearance of some of the videos......all of the computers, monitors, amps, guitars, chairs, cables, etc., were for the most part all stashed in an orderly fashion even in some of the smallest rooms. Everything there had its place and was stored accordingly. In many computer cables weren't even visible.
My compressed area looks like a junk pile. Not enough room for anything. Stuff stacked atop my 78's albums, etc. All kinds of no=no's according to my world. |

Stuart and I have had to make do since we've put the music room in the motor home. Everything pretty much stays forever where it's used so it's as neat as it's ever going to get. Yes that's a vibrator cushion in my office chair.

Can you see the difference between Joe's first photo and second photo? First one looks lived in and used. Second one just looks cluttered. (maybe it's the babys' fault. )
Another reason to keep the guitar cords out of the way is the possibility of tripping and falling over them, damaging either your prized Tele, your steel, or yourself. This is not all just for appearance saake.
