Hi All -
If you use modeling for your steel and specifically a Line 6 pod.... I'm looking to hear or see some patches for the XT/X3 or the HD desktop/500 models. Looking to pick one up for FOH and quiet stages.
Thank you for sharing! If you have any audio links to your playing or videos, or patches - please share I appreciate it! |

I used a Line 6 Pod XT running direct into the board for all of the guitar and steel tracks on this page. Oscar's guitar (a Strat) was recorded first, and I added the steel (a Sierra Laptop) later.
I didn't really document the patches, but the recording shows some of what the Pod XT can do.
I use it live between the volume pedal and the amp on most of my gigs. It's rare that I'm willing to hook up a whole chain of effect boxes when one unit can do an acceptable job. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

I have an HD desktop and an HD500, I use the HD for steel, and the HD500 for guitar. BTW, the patches are not interchangeable for these two models. I pretty much quit playing a year or so after I bought them, so I haven't scratched the surface of their capabilities. I saw a few days ago that one of the big, online music dealers have the HD for $199.99, half of what I paid for mine. Line6 must be coming out with a new model soon. _________________ Darvin Willhoite

I've been using a Pod XT since 2005 or so and love it. Live and recording. _________________ Red Emmons D10 fatback #2246D with sweet Hugh Briley split cases, Black Emmons S10 #1466S, '73 Fender "Snakeskin" Twin Reverb, Peavey Nashville 400, Line 6 Pod XT, Fender 400, Fender Stringmaster Double-8, too many guitars, one bass! |

They updated the HD500 and Pro to the HD500X and the Pod HD Pro X... Likely there will be a new X desktop - just wondering if anyone has strong thoughts on the HD vs the XT/X3 line. |

I use my X3 at home, with headphones, it saves setting up all the amps etc.
It's way to complicated for me, but I did eventually find some pre-set sounds that I have modified to give me the steel sound that I like.
I have moved the gazillion overdrive/fuzz patches to the far end of the scrolling, where they will never again see the light of day |

I use a POD X3, but for effects only on gigs. I have one preamp that I use for recording, sometimes.
I agree a new model must be coming out as the POD HD's price has dropped in half ($199) at Sweetwater.
I tried a POD HD and sent it back. Didn't like the "new" effects and didn't like that the POD HD, unlike the POD XT and X3, tended to take some body out of the signal with effects only. If I were using distortion it would not be noticed, but on a clean signal it was apparent. |

I use the podXTfor effects for live gigs and practice. mostly for delay and the lesley effect. I still use a stompbox for overdrive sounds. The best feature of the podXT, for me, is playing my backing tracks via USB thru my steel amp. Track volume is independent of guitar volume. I can adjust the track volume from my laptop on the fly. this works great for practice and solo gigs. _________________ auribus teneo lupum |

My XT was my gig rig for a few years---actually, the only reason I stopped using it is that I'm not currently gigging. Working at home, I've become addicted to stomp boxes and the Pod has not seen much use. However I recently did a recording project and after way too much dicking around I pulled out the Pod and *bingo*.
I use it for amp modeling and for fx.
I also bought the bass pack in order to gain the speaker cabs.
Like b0b, I don't document my patches. I do find it quite easy to create good sounds, though.
I have no experience with anything post-XT. |

I like the sound I get with my POD HD. I couldn't find any presets that sounded worth a hoot, so I sat down one day, connected the POD to my computer and experimented for a few hours. I came up with 4 or 5 patches that sound good to me, some with amp models, and some without. I like it better than the XT's or X3's I've had. _________________ Darvin Willhoite
