Thought someone would have put up this article by Andy Volk in the latest issue of Fretboard Journal by now. Great article on Fred Osters Vintge Instruments. Never knew it existed and I live in the Phila area

Didn't know about it, but congratulations, Andy.

I'm very frugal and FJ exceeds my acceptable expenses on a monthly basis (man, that's sad!), although the one issue I bought was totally worth it.

Funny story: I had just purchased an issue of FJ that had Bill Frisell interviewing Jim Hall, and had it in my umm...office, and I read an article about the guitarist for the Stooges, James Williamson. Not having grown up a Stooges fan, I really had not known of him before. He is a devoted fan of Hawaiian music and Hawaiian steel, as I found out in the article.

After finishing my business, I went down to my studio and checked my email. It was from a guy who was interested in having a Fry Pan built like the one I had, and was asking if I was OK with that. His signature was "James Williamson." Yep, same guy. All of this happened within 10 minutes of each other. What are the odds?

James is both an active member of the forum and a nice guy.

Thanks for the plug, Bill. I wish my playing matched my writing. Smile

If you're near Philly you really have to see Fred's shop to believe it. It's a breathtakingly lovely 19th mansion that houses some of the finest instruments around. When I was there last Spring he had a 20's koa Martin Hawaiian and several electric Gibson lap steels in addition to the cream of the crop of Martin & Gibson acoustic Spanish guitars - most in drool-worthy condition.
