I recently purchased, for $15, BIAB which has two manuals and three discs.

What I got in the box was BIAB Megapak version 8, Megapak 9 and a BIAB ''Power Guide'', plus the two printed manuals.

It's pretty ancient as it cites the requirements as Windows 95 and Mac 68030 or PowerMac.

I have an old Windows laptop which will probably run the programme - but - should I bother?

I don't need ''the latest'' of anything these days and would be quite content mucking about with this version, that is, if it's going to work.

The manuals are quite extensive, but, is there anything I should be aware of, prior to cranking up the old laptop?

many tks in anticipation.

I started when BiaB was floppy disk based, and stuck with my Megapak9 for years...even without the realtracks it is worth loading & working with.

Just be aware that the Sound Quality relies on what software or hardware GM set you have. You can have a blast with the supplied GM set in Win, just don't expect "high quality"!

You can test the waters with this BIAB version. It should run on any windows computer. You can find my videos on you tube that will teach you everything you need to know. I'm sure you'll probably want to upgrade to a later version once you get started. It is rather addictive. Here's a link to the first of my series of instructional videos. You can find the rest once you get there. It's all free. If you watch the videos, you should be making music in less than one hour. http://youtu.be/XhNFBHy26-c

Have fun!!!

I have been using version 8 since it first came out and have not seen any reason to up-grade to a newer version. It does everything I want it to do and while it probably won't work with some of the newer Real Tracks, it does work with the ones I currently have. ANY version of BIAB is loaded with more junk than you will ever use as it's original reason for existing was for the jazz market.
