Hi.
I have a 1980ish MSA 'The Universal'. Recently my B Pedal 3rd String raise keeps going flat to the point that that I have to tune it up 4-5 times during a 3 set gig. Does that mean I need a new nylon nut on the end? _________________ Carter - S12 Universal

Yeah, the nylon nut could definitely be slipping. Having to retune that much...4 or 5 times...tells me that it's the nut. If something else was slipping, like a bellcrank, or rod, you would be running out of tuning nut adjustment. It would simply bottom out.
Try swapping the nylon nut it with another pull's nut, that you don't use much, to test it. If the 3rd string stays put, you have your answer. Order a new nylon nut.
If that doesn't fix it, maybe the 3rd string is slipping at the string tuner...as in maybe it's not wrapped correctly around the post. I've seen that happen also. _________________ Best regards,

Oh I didn't even think to check at the bell crank... I'll give that a tighten as well. Pretty sure it's not the tuner because it's staying in tune if the pedal is up.
Thanks for the tips. I'll give them ago and report back. _________________ Carter - S12 Universal

An easy test to see if the string wraps are slipping on the tuner is to first tune the string, then give it a gentle pull with your fingers, then check the tuning. If it's out of tune, it's the string wraps not holding. _________________ Best regards,
