Guitar player who is new to Steel here. I have a basic question about the C pedal in E9th tuning.

My C pedal currently raises the 5th string an honest whole step and raises the 4th string a "sharp" whole step. So my question is should the 4th string be raised a whole step or maybe a step and a half... right now it is somewhere in between. I feel like the 4th string raise with the C pedal should probably be a whole step but then again I am new to Steel.

If someone could comment and walk me through how to make the proper adjustment I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,
Ray

The pedal is out to tune. You need to find the hexagonal nylon tuning nut at the changer end and loosen it a little by turning it counterclockwise.

Most of these nuts are 3/16 of an inch, and you can buy a tuning wrench made for steel players here on the forum, or a 3/16" hex driver at your local hardware store.

May wanna check your string gauge, too, it may have been inadvertantly replaced with the wrong gauge which may account for its current out of tune-ness.

Thank you fellows. I appreciate all the replies.

I tuned the C pedal end tuners and it is now raising both the 4th and 5th strings a Whole Step each.

THANKS
