That was a mighty fine performance on Cherokee......
Seems like you're getting better with each new one. I can't help but wonder, do you have a day job or do you merely sit around all day thinking up these wonderful arrangements for the rest of us to enjoy. It has to take you a lot of time to produce these?
By the way, how did you manage to get your voice up so high without sounding like a yodeling banjer picker. Great falsetto........on Begin the Beguine.
Great work! |

Ray;
I have a full time job, at Intel and I work a compressed work week. (12 hour days, 3 or 4 days a week) That gives me half of the week to perform, record, or build steel guitars.
I am not sure which song you are asking about the high vocals. I didn't sing on Begin the Beguine?
I am a tenor and I have a pretty high vocal range.
I made these arrangements, and recorded background tracks over the past several years. I use them when I play solo gigs on my lap steel. Lately I have been playing along with the backgrounds in my studio and recording the steel and vocals on other tracks. Most of the time I have to go back and "punch in" to fix a few of my mistakes, but sometimes I get it right the first time.
Recording my steel and vocals has helped me to improve my playing and singing. I need to work on playing smoother and more Hawaiian vibrato like you Ray. You have that classic touch and your melody just glides from note to note.
Dom
