I was doing some research pertaining to a future build and I found out about Magnesium Alloy Az91
It is supposedly 35% Lighter than aluminum and something like 20% stronger.
Has anyone used this or know of anybody that tried it? Is it magnetic? If so would that effect anything if being used for undercarriage components? Thanks
-Jeff

Hi Jeff, Someone told me it was good material but very pricey. J.R.

No, it's not magnetic, and it doesn't polish up very well. In theory, it sounds good, but it would be a pretty expensive option to save maybe 2 lbs. of weight on a guitar. There's also the hazard of particularly nasty fires caused by the flamability of the chips, shavings, and powder. Oh Well

Donny's on the right track! Magnesiium alloyed with aluminum and zinc. Only real advantage over older Mg alloys is better corrosion resistance. If you use it to make a frame, it needs to be cast or welded. Looks like only sheet or ingots are available. Fine chips of Mg alloy are very flammable and cannot be put out with water.

Don't try to make one in your backyard!
