I'm really enjoying Mike's two new CDs. The Christmas CD is probably the most innovative CD of its genre to come out of the steel guitar community so far. Cool, unusual arrangements and outstanding playing.
And his Rock of Ages disc is another winner. Of course, I'm partial to music from the 60's & 70's era (and he must have known that in sending me the disc) and he takes a different slice of that pie than what I or Joe Goldmark have done. Mike's a top-notch player with great technique, ears and arranging skills and has gathered a cast of superb accomplices for his renditions of hit tunes by the likes of Stevie Winwood, Eric Clapton, Chicago, and Paul McCartney's old band (aka "The Beatles")
Highly recommended! _________________ www.JimCohen.com

Just received my copy today, Its sure is nice to hear someone venture out into the music world and play something different for a change, and played well for sure. haven't had a chance to play all of the Peace on Earth cd yet but I will and I know it will be great also. Guys you got to get you a copy of both cd'S, they are top notch with arrangements and the steel work and what he played fits each song to a T. Nice work Mike. _________________ Mullen G 2 D 10 8 & 6 , Emmons D 10 8& 6 Evans Amps , Revelation,MPX1,Steward PA 1000 rack, Steelers Choice Cross country Seat ,Hilton Pedal, Curt Mangan strings . I got my copy (Peace On Earth) a few days before Christmas, and continue to play it after Christmas.
Its great, its outside the box, its refreshing and its from one of the most creative musical minds I have heard in a long time.
Mike is the real deal for sure, thanks for the blessing Mike. _________________ Email: azpedalman@gmail.com

That's why I'm going to get them. I love it when someone dares to be creative ,dares to be different and not repetitive . So many do the same old same old and wonder why there is no growth or way to escape the label the instrument is said to be mired in. One genre. |

I have to bring this to the Top. this a great CD. Smiley sent me one of the CD's Mike gave him as he was telling me about it for about a week or so. This is what has to be done to bring the instrument into the future. Don't take the well traveled route but build your own road. Mike has done this. I am going to get his peace on Earth. |

Some well intentioned compliments about Mike D's albums center around their difference from the status quo and use terms like "ground breaking" and "daring". Although these terms are stated in earnest, it might be more accurate to congratulate the albums simply as fine and enjoyable music. I'd go so far as to suggest that comparing the albums to a broadly brushed, perceived status quo of steel guitardom does a slight disservice to the music, insofar as, our awareness shifts to what they're not, as opposed to, what they are. That being said, "Peace on Earth" and Rock of Ages" really do stand out in the crowd. |

Al disservice? I think not with no disrespect meant. It is as you state quite simply great music, As is the so called status quo to which I made a living at. My words were meant to mean that so many do what has already been done hundreds of times. How many albums of the same song does one need to collect or even want to? Something new to me is refreshing and more-so when it is done with the skill, taste and feeling Mike puts into his music. This CD brings out talent, versatility and truly shows that a Steel Guitar can make it's way in the world of many genres. |

Joe, nicely clarified and point taken. I think that we're intending to say the same thing, but, from slightly different perspectives and maybe mine is overly academic. I could probably have made a better choice of word than "disservice",-- which was a bit of a loaded term even though it was prefaced by the word "slight". To use a much too heavy handed analogy to explain my comment's point, -- the Beatles did not record the White Album in order to be different or ground breaking, those terms are applied after the fact of its' creation. The creation of the music is quite singular and an essential outcome of the artist's creative curiosity and application. So, in order to bring the two perspectives together, --Mike Daly put out a really nice couple of albums and WOWZO!, they really are a refreshing contrast from lots of the recorded steel guitar music out there. |

Thank you Joe, Al and all for your passionate responses to my albums. My intention with these CD's was not to make steel guitar albums in the more traditional sense but to make recordings of music that I love that happens to be played on the steel. A fine distinction to draw indeed, but one that you all seem to sense, understand, and enjoy. And for that I thank you. |
