I have a Remington steel with legs and a Melborne lap steel w/o legs. I think i would like to put them both on a keyboard stand...maybe with a board across the stand to lay them both on. Is this a dumb idea ? Has anyone made a stand for two steels that works for them ?
I didnt want to do any mods to either steel. I am planning on using this sitting down. Thanks for any thoughts, advise, criticisms, etc.

I was going to have a friend of mine who has a wood shoppe in his garage........

take a wooden base.........and router......and carve out the shape of two of my Ric's; one six and one seven stringer.

That base board could fit nicely on a scissor stand for a keyboard. The section that is routed out could have that cushiony gray stuff installed therein and there you'd have it.

A double guitar unit without any major mod's to either guitar.

Ray, that sounds like an interesting idea...would you have both steels set in at the same height, or do you think the "outer" neck should be higher than the "inner" neck. BTW I read your web page and your bio, etc....very very interesting career you have had !! Most impressive, thanks for sharing that info !

The nearest neck/guitar body.......would be sunk into the base about 3/8's of an inch.

The outer neck could/should be higher in relation to the nearest unit.......similar to the appearance of the Gibson Console like Don Helms/Roy Wiggins both player.

The wood base would have to be cut and routed in some kind of working relationship with that outer unit. I was planning on using Rubber-made non-skid
shelving material on the bottom of each form.

I was ready to have the form made but something in my life produced a change in plans.

A Projector stand is great. Portable, adjustable legs and light enough also includes carry handle and easily removable legs etc. Essentially what you want.

been using one for years.

Here is the exact model.

Da-Lite Project-O-Stand Model 203 (203-PROJECT-O Stand ACCS11.25INX19IN Table Shelf) 4206

Just google it. Enjoy.

You can buy some dense foam/plastic/wood or something to raise the outer neck and glue it to the stand.

Then felt your stand top for grip. I just use a mat/carpet on mine but hey it does the job.

I used a piece of plywood, built a "box" for the back shelf, covered in speaker cabinet carpet (from Parts Express). I put this on a keyboard stand. Not real pretty, not real ugly. Works great.

I use a keyboard stand, heavy duty, double braced legs. Most lighter duty keyboard stands are too flimsy and wobble too much. I used four hose clamps with rubber feet attached to raise back steel up a little. Woks great.

ditto on this stand. found one at a yard sale years ago. now that nobody uses projectors any more, you might check at school surplus sales and such.
