Is this Airline steel worth $400? A friend said she might purchase it to learn steel. Told her i'd find out for her. I think she could do a little better as far as quality goes. Much appreciated.

The pickup and control plate is in a lot of guitars made by supro and they do sound great. They were the student intro models. I think $400. is the high end more like $300. There are supro on ebay and at guitar center for less than $300. Also Vega and magantone. Also haveing to plug in next to the pickup would be in the way, I think.

A nice old lap steel, like Dennis said, it was considered a student grade instrument in 1960 when it was made. Airline guitars and amps were sold at Montgomery Ward stores. They were built by Valco Co. in Chicago. I think $400 is a high price. These usually sell for about $275.
