have your wife or significant other accompany you to your playing gigs........in order for you to share the 'load' as like in a roadie.
By telling them lots of young gals would jump at the chance to help you carry your stuff into the club/hall...... in order to share YOU Fame.
This will usually do the trick. |

| My wife comes to some of my gigs. She won't carry any of my gear. One thing that she does not like, is when I sing that Ray Price song, "The Other Woman". |

John I have a similar problem. My wife hates "Don't You Ever Get Tired of Hurting Me". She is only 4'-11" and just over 100lbs. so she will help with the "lighter" stuff but there isn't much of that to carry. I think she may be a little too secure also because she is not at all worried about other women. At my age I don't remember what to do with one anyway.
Ray if I told my wife that young gals wanted to help me carry my equipment she'd just laugh. |

| My wife would never set foot in any of the places I play in, except church. She will show up, if I'm fronting for someone famous, or playing at Rooster's Chickin' Shack and Honky Tonk in Hennessey Ok. The Shack has great fried chickin' and is not a bar until 11:00pm. As far as carrying equip. It ain't gonna happen. The band leaders wife sets up the PA, unloads the truck, and the drummers wife helps him set up. Even at home, I have my own little house I play and have all of my stuff set up in. I can play loud and all night long if I want too, and never bother a soul. |

Unless it was a private event, corporate gig or wedding, my ex was at every gig.
She never was expected to be a roadie. But ………she is really handy, at keeping me safe from drunk women. ( even after we split up ) She also got people dancing.

Actually,,, I'm my Wife's Roadie. I carry all of her music and her Purse, then I pack my stuff in.

Years ago when I played in a larger group, the wives didn't come quite so much. Now she comes with me as much as she can and even helps me set up. I usually have the most stuff and it sure helps me get up and out in good time..love her  I've been told by a few that when I'm by myself I'm lost cause she can get my steel set up and out in record time! |

My wife is very supportive:
she encourages me to play out: "can you get all this stuff out of the house."
Seriously, she comes whenever she can, she enjoys the music but has a good ear and will offer delicate critiques. And she trusts me to be a good boy if she can't make it.
But she doesn't carry a thing. |

My wife thinks that my albums are no good, but she's never listened to them. What a wonderful gift, to be able to critique something she's never listened to. She should be out working for the press.

My wife won't come to a gig much less carry anything! She'd prefer that I go back to electric guitar....

For the first couple of years when I was working for someone else in a "Knock 'em down dragg 'em out pub
she didn't bother coming........
But for all the time after that she was always 3 feet to the left playing Bass and lead singer
I had to carry the gear including P.A.
But she was always very good if some female in the crowd fancied me......she would just give their seeing-eye dog a biscuit and turn their chair around
to face away from the band!!! |

One time we were playing a club with a stage only 12 inches high or so with room each side for people to walk through to go to the toilet as usual my wife was 3 feet to the left of me playing bass....I was on the the edge of the stage right.
Most of the evening this tall slender.immaculately
dressed....black curly hair.....mascarred fluttering eyelashes....large hoop earings.....makeup etc...was swaying or shimmying at the right hand end of my steel... dusky Island skin etc ...if I wasn't playing something.......would occasionally just reach out and touch my hand or my arm.........
Towards the end of the night...................

"OH NO..!!!!!...GET ME OUT OF HERE !!!!!!"

When the wife does come with, she gets real energetic to help and I continually tell her,
Honey,PLEASE Don`t carry the Vegas 400 without the steel in the other hand, its not good for the one side of your body to do that, do it this way or dont do it, Thank You ! Good thing I married a beautiful farm gal, shes the best.
