I know about and have used several steel amps over the years so what amp is best for steel is not the question.
I was looking over a sale paper today with a Peavey KB3 keyboard amp in it and it caught my attention. Has anyone had any experience with this one as a steel amp. |

Keyboard amps generally have a simpler EQ section. That means you might have problems getting the tone you want. Other than that, should be OK. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I have never played a psg on one but I played a Gibson BR9 6 string lap on one once I thought it sounded fantastic _________________ Justice S10 Jr, Gibson Electra 6string, Boss Katana 100, Steelers Choice ,Gretsch 6 string lap, Hilton VP |

My wife has a Berhinger K1800FX. It sounds OK, but I like my Nashville 112 better. _________________ Amateur Radio Operator NA4IT (Extra)

I may, in fact, be nuts. However, I am screwed onto the right bolt... Jesus! |

Thanks,
I've used about every "steel" amp Peavey has made at some time and other brands too but I like the N112 about as good as any primarily because of the weight factor. The KB3, according to the ad, is not heavy and works with various instruments. May try it out anyway but did not want to purchase one without some advice. |

My opinion only: I once used a PV keyboard amp in a house backline and although I made it through the show, I did not fall in love with the amp. I do not like horns like these KB amps have and I did not have sound-check time to figure out how (if it's even possible) to disable these hi-freq tweeters.
Too crispy & sterile.
I would need more tweaking time than I had, to assess its overall usefulness for steel. |
