Topic: Problem with 'B' (5) string |

I changed strings on my MSA Classic and now the 5th string is about -20 cents on the A pedal. The C pedal is still dead on at 440. I changed strings but the results are the same and the gauges are the same as before. I loosened the nylon tuner to 0 pull and tuned the string. But when I tighten the nylon tuner to pull to a c# it raises the B string to +20. So obviously something has gone wrong. What do I look at next? This guitar has always been dead on 440. Help.

Either readjust the pedal stop to give you more pedal throw, or move the rod farther out on the bellcrank. You must have changed gauges, either through buying a different set or through the wrong string being in the package.

That would seem logical, but the gauges were the same. That's why I am thinking something slipped.

Unless you have round shafts, I think you can discard that. I think I'll stick with changed gauges, but assume your .017 package didn't actually include an .017 (unless you've put a micrometer on it, in which case I'll assume you have a wire made of the wrong alloy).

Ok put on another string different company, same gauge same thing. I increase pedal action by one turn and it fixed the problem. Thanks Lane.

Kinda off subject, but it goes to show that weird stuff like the wrong gauge in a package can happen. I had a set of SIT C6 lap steel strings. When I went to change strings, the first envelope I opened had a 6 inch length of string perfectly coiled inside. Figuring it was a fluke, I opened the second envelope and there was another coiled 6 inch string just like the other. Opened the 3rd, 4th,.... same thing. I called SIT, and to their credit, the immediately sent out another set. |
