I have been fortunate to get a 2010 Carter made in February, just before they closed shop. It has 3 pedals and 2 knee levers and raises and lowers perfectly. However take a look at this picture and notice string 6, that the changer finger does not line up. How can I adjust this, like I say it plays perfectly

I had an issue whereby I was bottoming out the nylon tuner on the pull rod, and not getting my pull tuned up to pitch.

The actual problem on my Carter ended up being that on one of the pull pins with the 'grub screw' (I believe it's called), the screw had come a little loose: everytime I activated the knee lever (which your 6th string is likely attached to if it's stock from Carter), the pull rod went further and further into the pull pin.

Are you noticing that there's no slack in the pull on your 6th string when using RKR? (I'm assuming that RKR lowers your 6 from G# to F# here)

That's where I'd start to look. But I'm not nearly as experienced in the mechanics as many of the guys on here.

The finger is out of place because someone has removed the string and somehow allowed the lowering part of the finger to flip around and get behind the raise part. That might happen if the string is removed and then the guitar is turned upside down. You need to remove the string, also the return spring, and pull rods. Then just manipulate the parts of the changer finger around until they get back in place. You should be able to see when it matches the others. Then replace the spring, rods, etc.

Looks like the space between 2nd and 3rd string is too wide????

Watch your spacing between strings. Note the slot for the brass string ball on each finger and align the string with that. They are offset on the wider fingers an Carter's so it is easy to get your string spacing off as yours is. Just a tip, could affect your playing. Happy picking! Smile

Thank you Bill Jarek and the rest. You guys are so helpful. I shone a flashlight down the hole were the fingers as and saw something like blocking the action. I went ahead and removed the finger and as you can see in the picture on the left it is horribly bent. I just got this guitar used and I am not sure how the previous owner did this. However, fortunately I have a few spares and was able to put in a new finger, tuned it up and it is again working perfectly and looking right. Thank you also for the tip on string placement. This forum is a great resource, and you guys helped me do something I had never done before, regards, brian

Wow! Good job. I don't think I would have attempted that myself and I am pretty handy. Well done.

It might be bent because the previous owner put a lot of force on it, trying to get it back in position. Otherwise, I don't see how it could have ended up bent. The part that's bent is where contact is made with the top part of the changer. The bent part is the piece that needs to be in the correct position when installed.

Is this problem specific to 4 raise, 2 lower fingers? Or has it been seen on 3/3 fingers too?
