Hello..

What can yawl tell me about LTD pedal steel guitars ??

Looks like maybe Ed Naylor made / makes them.

Is he still in business ??

I sent him a PM, but I don't find any recent posts from him.

Any feedback would be appreciated..

Thanks

Kevin

The LTD guitar were originally built by Gary Rittenberry. The later ones were built by Ed Naylor. Ed passed away a few years ago, that's why you haven't gotten a reply. Don't know what ever happened to the shop he had.

Yes, Ed died almost 9 years ago. Here's the thread about it, on the old infopop forum - http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum14/HTML/002380.html - I thought I read about Ed's parts being liquidated a long time ago, but it's so long ago that I don't remember any details.

There are a lot of threads on LTD guitars, and quite a bit of confusion due to the change in ownership plus Ed alleging that even some others were building guitars under this same name after he started, as demonstrated in these threads -

You can find lots of threads yourself with a google search like this and/or varying the search keywords:

"LTD guitars" site:steelguitarforum.com

I've played a couple of Nashville LTD guitars, not sure which version, but the ones I played were good guitars. But if you're thinking about buying one, I also agree with b0b's advice on the first thread, which reads:

I would want to examine the guitar closely before buying it. Due the the change in ownership of the name, there is real confusion in the market about these guitars. I would advise against buying one sight unseen. The only way to be sure of the quality of a particular Nashville LTD guitar is to sit down and play it, IMHO. If you can't do that yourself, get an expert from the Forum to do it for you.

My first Steel was a Nashville LTD. All I can say is there is a definate difference between a Naylor built and Rittenberry build. If in question about one, send me or Gary a photo of the undercarriage, end plates and changer so it can be Id,d. The Rittenberry built is a good guitar. Doug Jerrigan played one for a while and loved it. I won't go into detail about what happened but wasn't pleasant.
Nuff said. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info..

I looked at some of the links and it did seem to get heated.

The one I'm looking at is a green lacquered sd10.

It's a Naylor built guitar no question.

The guy who's selling it went to the shop and got it.

Assuming the guy is shooting me straight on its performance and it's all good what's a SWAG on a reasonable value ??

Thanks

Kevin

The only LTD I ever saw up close, had hex style cranks installed on round cross shafts, or vice versa. Confused Probably a Naylor.

I have a Rittenberry built Nashville LTD D-10 Doug Jerningan Model and it is a great guitar, I also just had Gary build me a SD-10 Rittenberry and it is the best steel I have ever played, so anything Gary built will be fine I'm sure
