| I would like to string my Remington C6th with G-e-c-a-g-e-c-a tuning...It currently is set up as A6th. Thanks in advance. |

| Ray, tuning a regular A6 set to C6 with a high G involves tuning everything up a minor third. That can actually sound pretty good, with all the string tension. If half of them don't break. |

Excuse my ignorance but doesn't one actually have to tune down, lowering the strings, when one goes from A6th to C6th????
Doesn't this mean less string tension here?
What is it that I'm missing?

| You are framing A6 with a C scale, Ray. To tune down to C would be 9 semitones ( I think) as opposed to tuning up 3 semitones. C6 is tonely higher than A6. The high G might be the only string that would break, Ken, the gauges for both turnings are pretty close. I use a 14 on the high G and the high E on A6 is usually a 15 so you might get away with just tuning up. |

| I knew I was being dumb posting this, but my first string broke when I tried to tune it up to the G, so I made the "assumption" that I would probably break more strings as I retuned my steel to C6th up from the A6th, so thats what prompted me to ask what guages most of you used for your C6th 8 string tuning. Thanks for the input, I appreciate. I will just replace the first string with the 14 guage and go from there. |

| It also depends on the scale length of your guitar. Mine is 22.5" so I can get away with slightly heavier strings. Longer scale and you should go lighter. Your bottom F# might not tune up to A either. |
