Very pretty. I've always loved this song since I was a kid. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I am really in awe of your consistent, high quality recordings. How you (and a few others on the forum) manage to do so much and balance that with a demanding career and keeping your marriage together is beyond me! |

Bill, Kurt,
Grateful for the appreciation. I try to get the best sound I possibly can; once on CD, a recording is frozen for posterity and we all want to keep steel alive and growing. I use 24 bit recording and a minimum of effects into the mixing board to permit as much freedom as possible during mixdown. The mp3 uploads to Soundcloud are at 320 kbps.

: my son, David, made the backing track from a commercially available score. It has been a while (pre 2006) and I have forgotten where and also managed to lose the audio when I cleared a hard disk. I am traveling, will try to answer better when I get back to the US... |

Despite it's now somewhat cliche status I've always felt it was a beautiful composition and one of my favorite Jobim tunes. Well played, Kay! _________________ Steel Guitar Books! Website: www.volkmediabooks.com |

Andy,
The appreciation is treasured, apologies for this late acknowledgement , as I am travelling.
Yes, an evergreen with very interesting chord structures...

Very nice. I can't hear that tune without thinking of the Blues Brothers in the elevator.

It was also used as hold music on a cellular phone commercial as an example of bad customer service. Let's try to recall how absolutely new, fresh and lovely it sounded when Astrud Gliberto first sung it and Stand Getz's sax wove a tapestry around those unique chord changes. _________________ Steel Guitar Books! I received a version by a girl lead guitarist from the UK, who named her version "The Boy From Ipanema". Very fresh and innovative to my ears. I have asked her for permission to post and will do so if/when I get that permission.
With that kind of chord sequence, there is still plenty of room for improvisation way beyond Muzak…
