Hi everyone--
UNC Press is publishing my book in the spring of 2016, on the history of the Hawaiian steel guitar. I am turning in the final edits now (before copyediting), and I just got the green light to run 16 color plates in the center of the book for the first edition. Color plates are highly unusual for academic history books, so I'm thrilled by this turn of events. However, having already selected 50 black and white images for the book, I now need to find color images of historical instruments. If you own a 1920s-1950s era instrument such as a Weissenborn, National, Rickenbacker, Dobro, Oahu, Fender, or Gibson, or more unusual one-offs from the period, and have access to a hi resolution camera that can reveal the details of their craftsmanship, please consider sending images of your images to me for inclusion in the book. I am working with some collectors such as Tom Noe to get images of early Knutsens, but I am asking enthusiasts and collectors with any interest (along with nice cameras) to get in touch with me at lowery66@gmail.com.
I would love to feature your images in the book, and will properly credit you for the photographs, should they gain selection by the press. Email me and I am happy to discuss the details and the needs for the background, etc.
Thanks so much! I hope to hear from you!
