This is a pretty cool solo, and it sure is a workout for pull-offs! Russ now plays a 25" scale steel tuned to Eb, but this was recorded in 2004, so I have no idea what he played at the time.... maybe Russ himself will chime in and actually comment as to how he did it. The solo is over the 4 chord, which in this case is B, and resolves to the 1 chord, F#.

Thanks for the post! Something I have been struggling with in general is eliminating the metallic cling sound when I lift the bar off the strings. Any suggestions??
Thanks again! |

Hi Alex,
I not at all sure how close this is but here's how I've been doing it.
For the hammer on and pull offs - I play G# and B strings open. Then drop the nose of the bar at 3rd fret on G# and F# strings. When the bar hits it plays a unison B note. Pick the F# string at the 3rd fret to get the A note. Pick the G# and B strings again. Repeat... muting sometimes.(I don't play the D# note but you can get it on the E string lowered a half step.)
For the ascending trill lick I play G# string 7th fret against an open B string. Press the first pedal 1/3rd of the way down and slide up to the 8th fret. 2/3rds of the way down, slide up to the 9th fret. All the way down, slide up to the 10th fret.
Regards,
Mike |
