I have just gone back to Standard Emmons (as far as Mullen's concerned, from a mixed up copedent.
Obviously I know how to incorporate The E's Lower, Raise, and the ABC pedals, but I have only found a couple licks and chord used with the RKR (D# lowered half and whole tone, and D lowered to C#) and RKL (6th string whole tone raise and 1st string Half??? tone raise*).
* Im not absolutely sure thats what is happening, Im away from the guitar and can't be sure.
If you know what I'm getting at......
What do you do with them? _________________ Mullen G2 SD10 , Lil Izzy Buffer, Goodrich 120 volume pedal, Boss DD-7, Peterson Strobo flip, Peavey Nashville 112 |

Jeff, here's a few uses for lowering 2

Raising 1 a whole step isn't that useful unless you also raise 2 a half. I've never raised 6 a whole. Are you sure that's what it does? _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I believe that "standard Emmons" on your RKL would lower string 6 one whole-step from G# to F# (as well as raise string 1 a half-step from F# to G). That's straight from the factory, as far as I know. Works great in conjunction with the "standard Emmons" LKR, which lowers both Es to Eb. Gives you a V chord in addition to the I (open) & IV (pedals A & B). Buddy figured this all out decades ago, and no one's come up with anything better since, IMHO. |

Jack, I think Buddy dropped 6 a whole tone rather than a ½. At least that's what he had in his tab. I love that 1 raise 6 lower. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I would suggest learning what the changes actually are, and perhaps then going on a forum to discuss their use.

The 2nd string half step lower changes the first 2 strings from an interval of a minor 3rd to a major 3rd. If you learn your harnonized scales you will understand the importance of that simple change. It is almost as powerful as the AB pedals change.
Put a couple hours a day into learning how scales, harmonized scales and chords lay on the neck with just the AB pedals and pretty soon the uses for the first 2 strings and that 2nd string lower will become obvious.
There is no way to get to the place where the instrument makes sense without putting in the hours of practice. _________________ Bob |
