| found old opry am show part 1 with roger miller opening the show. the staff band had 2 guitar players jimmy and thumbs . short clip but leaves no doubt about jimmys speed! |

It's very verifiable that Jimmy was the best guitar player of all time! He was the first guitar player

That steel player Jim Colvard was working with back in 1958 wasn't too shabby either, Al. Perhaps not "verifiably" the best anywhere, but the best for miles around.

| I recently heard Dudley's Six Days playing in a used book store. I knew the song, but didn't remember that baritone guitar snapin' and popin' like that in the background. Had to be a Danelectro "tic tac" bass as they called them. Anyway, I discovered Colvard, a great player. Nice to hear more about him. |

All to follow is from a blog entitled "Some Local Loser," which mission claims to be "transferring forgotten records into digital format."
"I thought I sang pretty good," Dave said. But there was something else that made Dudley's version the Six Days signature. "It had a shotgun guitar, first eight bars," he said, describing a lick played by lead player Jimmy Colvard, who was a minor when the song was cut. "When he hit it with his thumb, he got the note and the harmonic. When he hit that lick on the guitar, they bought it."
Jimmy played guitar on the original version of Six Days On The Road which Dave Dudley recorded at Kay Bank Studios for his Golden Wing label. The song was picked up by Mercury Records and re-recorded in Nashville, but instead of Jimmy Colvard Dave used John Voit on guitar.
