It was New Year's Eve at the Elks and I brought my Stage One for the gig.

I noticed at the end of the first set that something was just a little off and I thought well maybe it’s I’m being too critical.

At the end of the 2nd set I begin to feel maybe I’m right about this and perhaps there is something just a little bit wrong with my Stage One.

At the end of the 3rd set it was 11:59 pm and it was time to play “Ole Lang Zine” by the time I got through the song it was obvious that something was wrong and some of the people also pointed it out to me.

Well I had to struggle through the 4th set and then it was my big moment when I play “Sleep Walk” for the last song usually to standing ovations and my Stage One totally let me down.
I was never so humiliated and embarrassed.

So I tilted it forward and look underneath and I could see Champagne dripping from the bottom of it.
I look around and I saw 4 beer cans, 8 of those plastic Champagne glasses, 4 shot glasses and my reading glasses all laying on the stage around my Stage One.

My Stage One had become totally sht faced during the night.
Doug needs to put a warning label on these Stage One’s saying they are not to be trusted around alcoholic beverages.

Here’s the evidence.

" AULD LANG SYNE". I think maybe the Stage One was not to blame, perhaps it could have been the operator of the machine a certain Mr Legg ( or perhaps that should read Leggless) , judging by the spelling of our classic Scottish song.Happy New Year Bo. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Bo, should have added ,hope Stuart ( good Scottish name) was driving on way home, or if not when does your case come up in court and we can have a collection to pay the fine, not that you will get much out of us miserable and mean Scots. Laughing

I suspect, as in most cases with pedal steel players, that the real problem was between the seat and the steel! Winking

Laughing LOL

Give your Stage One two aspirins, a pint of blood, 2 liters of Ox. Then send it to sunny Orlando, FL. for further detoxification and it'll be just fine!! Cool

Rgds,

Ron

It just so happens I run a De-Tox center for PSG's that have lost their way and turned down the road of lost intonation. The cost is free, just send me the guitar and within a few short years your PSG will be on it's way home completely cured.

Happy New Year... Loved the story.

Sorry about misspelling Zyne. My spell check put a red line under it so I changed it to Zine....went got another cup of my Pinion coffee and forgot to recheck it.
I felt really really good New Years Eve and the licks where just flying out of my mind through my fingers and I played notes I've never played before.
I was so far out there that I went right past the zone to out of the Zone.
So after I heard the recordings from the gig I knew the problem had to be the Stage One.

When Bo plays good he asks them to call him Bo but when he plays badly he has them call him Stuart.
Speaking of mistakes, my Name was supposed to be Kevin Stuart Legg and they made a mistake at the hospital and wrote it down as Stuart Kevin Legg and not a Jr.
Bo jokes that he left it that way because I was a mistake anyway. Laughing That's not funny!
Bo is his middle name and Stuart is his first name.
He was allowed to use Bo here on the forum because I'm not a Jr and it would be confusing with two Stuart Legg members posting.

Bo, old Scottish saying "It's a poor workman that blames his tools". If I ever have the great pleasure of meeting you, remind me not to drink whatever you were on New Years Eve Laughing

I realize that a lot folks here on the SGF find my posts to be worthy only of their critical verbalizations however, I'm going to risk another one.

BO, I tho't your version of "SLEEPWALK" was most creative. I've never heard it played quite like you did; even remotely like you did. I feel your performance was worthy of a "10"! You must've really been in 'the zone'. I'll bet few others here could've done it half as well.

Bo said,

"the problem had to be the Stage One."

You are absolutely right on point. As I see it you have a colossal problem with an out of control Stage One! Evil Twisted This intervention can help!!

Option 1. Send it to cold, dark, snowy Pennsylvania!

Or:

Option 2. Send it to Sunny Orlando for remedial PSG Rehab. Why it can even frolic around in the sun a few miles from here at Dizzy World.... Cool

Very sorry, I know this is tough news, but you have to do the right thing for this Stage One....Man up!! TX

Rgds,

Ron

Ron, option 3 send it to a wild cold and wet Scotland ,where we can teach it to play "Auld Lang Syne" and it can teach us Sleepwalk in return. Smile

Aye Malcolm, a worthy option, but me thinks here at Orlando, FL our structured Rehab plan calls for this unruly Stage One of Bo's is to teach it, "The Bottle let me down"!! Or else!! Evil or Very Mad TX

The use of the Green Acres lick as a tag was a little late, but the old 'Emmuns' One held up swimmingly considering the waters it was traversing.

Maybe Doug needs to start putting those blow-into interlocks on the Stage One - so it won't let you play if it detects that you have over-indulged! Laughing

Thank you Ray but I'm sure you would have never played it like that. You are too nice of a person to just point out my very sloppy and out of tune playing.
My problem is I never learn a canned version of anything so I just wing it my way.
But sadly we'll never know how good it would have sounded had not my Stage One gone off the wagon.

It seems the majority here 4 to 3 and 2 neutral agree that it was the fault of the Stage One

Craig Schwartz

Don R Brown
All seem to agree that the problem was the Stage One

Billy Murdoch
Donny Hinson
Malcolm McMaster
All seem to think it wasn't the Stage One at fault.

Ray Montee
Thought both were OK

Daniel Policarpo
Gave it a partial OK just on a small part of the ending but not the timing.

Bo, pretty sure it should be 4/4 as I think Mr Earnest would agree that the Stage one was not at fault, and possibly 4/5 as his lawyer probably thinks that as well Laughing

I have a '76 Emmons P/P that sometimes does that to me. I don't drink so it must be the steel seeking attention. You know like Alex Baldwin or Charlie Sheen.

Ohh! Ohh!....Just as I suspected, what happened to Bo's marvelous rendition of "Sleepwalk" (I commend you all to give it a listen if you haven't)which was marred by a recalcitrant Stage One falling off the wagon seems to be spreading around the PSG community!

To wit: See Ben Lawson's latest report above (Gheez, no less than an Emmons P/P ? Is nothing safe? Is there no honour left among the PSG's?). Additionally, more shocking reports of PSG's falling off the wagon like Bo's and Ben are coming in. What to do with this pandemic? Evil Twisted

Modified Options:

Send Bo to Scotland on a Good Will mission. He gives the Scots his rendition of "Sleepwalk". They send him back with their version of "Ole Lang Sine".. Very Happy

Stuart visits Cold & Dark Pennsylvania for a deep saturation in contemplative meditation sessions to sort out who's the real "Bo"...then report back.

The Stage One still comes to Orlando (Heh, Heh) for extensive Rehab. I will sacrifice to do this and hope the Stage One habits do not spread down here. Rolling Eyes These outcomes are jugular to all of us, as the ongoing saga of "Another Day, Another Gig" continuessssss...It will be the thrill of victory.....or the agony of defeat!!! Press on!! TX

Rgds,

Ron
