From: John McClung (aka Professor McTwang)
In early 2014, my wife Candace and I will be moving to the Olympia, Washington area, ending a 35-year run here in Southern California.

Wanting to play one final gig with some longtime musical soulmates, and have a visit with as many friends, fans, family, students and fellow musicians as possible, I'm throwing myself a Farewell Party on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m., at the Water Wheel Saloon in Norco, CA.

https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=gmail&attid=0.1.1&thid=142955cb148f1f35&mt=application/pdf&url=https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui%3D2%26ik%3Db2d20cdce1%26view%3Datt%26th%3D142955cb148f1f35%26attid%3D0.1.1%26disp%3Dsafe%26zw&sig=AHIEtbTZ05xt5uCByDhEUcIaSwPegRRCsA

TO MY STUDENTS:

I hope you'll come out to hear some great music, including not only myself on pedal steel, and my amazing hand-picked band, but my steel player pal Rick Schmidt, who will cover for me while I visit with folks.
I look forward to seeing you!

John, I wish I could make it but I can't so I want to go ahead and wish you the very best of luck in your new environment and life situation up north... I'm glad you got ol' Darryl Brooks on lead guitar, he's a good 'un and I haven't seen him in almost thirty years. Tell him Jerry H. says hi to Darryl "f---in" Brooks. We both used to work around north Long Beach at the same time and with a lot of the same people.. I always told him if he was gonna keep playin' my licks, he'd better clean 'em up..... Are you gonna have any one taking pictures of the event that you could post on the Forum? That'd be nice......JH in Va.

Jerry: pro photographer friend of mine will be shooting stills and video, I'll post stuff here and/or elsewhere with links. Wish you could be here. You, too, Ray, I'd love to back you up. But we'll reunite in Phoenix soon, though not this year, our move date is the same as the SWSGA show, rats.

Hey John wish I could make your party but Texas is a long way from Southern California. I want to join in with all the other musicians and friends of yours wishing you a great farewell party and safe journey and settling in your new location. Hopefully we'll get to see and visit with you in Phoenix. Bon Voyage buddy!!

Floating this to the top... if you live in SoCal, try to attend this party, featuring me and local heavy Rick Schmidt both playing pedal steel, even twin style now and then! Due to time and stage constraints, no steel sit-ins, sorry, but come enjoy a day of classic country music and lots of great guests.

Really looking forward to this, and I'm honored that John wants to share the stage with moi on this special event! I think the fact that John and I both have overloaded, non-friendly D12's is why nobody would really want to sit down to either one of them anyway.

But......

You'd be welcome to try a song or two on mine, if you agree to sign a release form stating that you will not complain about it not sounding like an Emmons, tuned ET, and with an unusually stiff action. Winking

While you all are steeling in So Ca we will be doing the same in Portland, I should charter a plane and bring all the steelers (35) down there, oh what fun we could have. Well John maybe you will just have to come to the Portland Jam in May.

Twang, does that come from the old days and your sound, or is it your style or were you wanting some Tang and got your eye teeth...

Have a ball, we will and hope to see you soon.

You crack me up, Larry! I hope to attend the May jam with y'all, presuming we're settled in and I have free time.

The stage name dates back to when I was dating a wonderful gal who was a lead player in an all-girl country band. She started calling me Mr. Twang, I dubbed her Ms. Twang, and there you are. Turned out to be a good, catchy brand name. My students call me Professor Twang.

Rick forgets that his steel is tilted at a ≠25° angle, vs my 5°, and I think is a few inches taller on top of that. Both of us have knee levers completely foreign to the "standard" copedent. Oh, and 12 strings per neck. Trying to play our steels is almost as bad as trying to play a Day setup if you play Emmons, NOTHING works right!

A few have trickled in. I'll post a few here, and probably create a website down the road. It was quite a night, amazing talent all night long.
