Anyone out there using one of these.I'm in the situation right now where this is my only amp.It was sent to Peavey last summer to sort out a minor issue(reverb wasn't working)before I started to sell it.I could never get a tone I liked out of it for steel.Played a Marlen,GFI,Mullen & Rains thru it & was just never able to find what I was after.I'm playin an Emmons LeGrande thru it now & have been really surprised @ the tone I'm gettin...really nice bottom to it & pretty sweet thru the rest of the range.I paid $150 for it & now I'm really glad I bought it.If anyone else out there is using one,i'd love to compare eq settings. |

I've had a number of Bandits and while my favorite was the original Bandit 65, I enjoyed them all.
I played 5-6 different brands of steels through them at one time or another and my eq rituals were always the same; I turned the bass full on and then gently added the mids and treble until I just start to hear them affecting the tone. At that point it was extremely small increments until the desired tone was achieved. Typically the mid and treble were rarely past the nine o'clock position.
At a time when I owned both a Bandit and a NV112, I felt I could emulate the 112's tone with the Bandit.
I never paid over $100 for any of them and usually in the $75 range.
Great little amps, and a bunch of them out there! _________________ Always remember you're unique..... Just like everyone else |

Replacing the Scorpion speaker with an 8ohm Black Widow will improve the tone substantially, the Scorpion is not ideally voiced for steel guitar. |

The Bandit lacks the 112's mid-shift, a sort of "voicing" control. So, I think that while some of the tones of the 112 could be mimicked on a Bandit, others would be impossible to duplicate. IMHO, the mid-shift is probably the most important control on a Peavey amp used for pedal steel. |
