Jamie, I used to run the AB Pot that you can no longer get...after all these years it still performs well...Since those are no longer available I got a Dunlop 500K pot from Tom Bradshaw and have been very pleased with it...It seems to come on a tad quicker then the AB but that's about the only difference I'm able to really notice.

I'll second Tom's Dunlop pot. Very good quality. It's taper is not a perfect match to the old AB pots, but the difference is pretty small. I don't even really notice it anymore.

The bass-er one may be wired backwards. Try reversing the cables to that pot. Just my first thought.

I have two Emmons volume pedals. One has the original Allen-Bradley pot, and it has worked flawlessly for over 35 years. (Hope I didn't just jinx it by making that statement, realizing it's well past overdue for failure.) The other pedal had a Clarostat pot that had failed. I replaced it with one of the new Dunlop pots a few weeks ago, so it's really too soon to evaluate as far as longevity is concerned. It does seem to work well, but it's not exactly the same as the Allen-Bradley pedal. Would not say it's any better or worse, just different. Not so much sound-wise, but the taper is slightly different. Don't expect the Dunlop pot to last 35 years like the Allen-Bradley has, but if it does it's doubtful I'll be around to report it.
