The Frontera Collection, which comprises some 130,000 recordings of Mexican music (primarily from borderlands) taken from 45s and 78s, includes 172 recordings with steel guitar either as accompaniment or as the featured instrument. You can hear 50 sec. samples here. You must use Real Player.

It is possible to access full length recordings through UCLA.
