well now... I'd come back as me.
But if I had the advantage of knowing I'd chosen a life as a musician again, I'd start learning Steel a LOT earlier in life.
No point in coming back as someone else no matter how talented. They've already done that and made a fine job of it... still would be better to take inspiration from the greats and take it to a new place unique to self.
But I do wish i'd jumped on this ride 20 years ago... so much potential. So little time. _________________ Too much equipment....I think I need help. |

I wouldn't mind another tour as myself but this time I'd start with a PSG at age 7 instead of an old Danelectro...
Also, I'd pay more attention to a serious musical career instead of being the professional party animal of my misspent youth at all the gigs!
If I can't have that, then I'll pick reincarnation as Tom Brumley!

Well, I don't think I'd want to come back as anyone else but one thing I'd like to be able to do is have like a DVD or video of several of the steel players from years ago and today. In let's say a DVD. It would start out when a player first started playing steel and it would progress through different stages, step by step, including things like what these guys did in between shows and how they picked with other steelers, swapping licks, etc. I'd especially like to be able to look back in time at the sessions and the way several of these guys' signature licks were developed. guitars and amps they used, etc. To me, every steel player has a story and history. I'd start with Jerry Byrd and continue on from there. |

OK, since nobody else is, I'll bite. Speedy West. I think it would have been so cool to hang out with Tennessee Ernie, Jimmy, Merle and the rest of the SoCal crew in the late 40's and early 50's. I'm sorry I never got to meet Speedy. The more I learn about him, the more I admire him and realize what a truly wonderful musician and person he was. _________________ Sonny Morris sjm227@hotmail.com |

If I could come back as a different steel player I would choose Buddy Emmons in a heartbeat. The man is just a genius. I look at what he has accomplished with the steel guitar and it is just amazing. He has been a designer, he has had much to do with the tunings we have today, and look at the licks he has invented as well. All of those along with great tone and bar control he just is a man to be honored. |

I sure hope you guys check with Mr. Hughey & Mr. Emmons before, like, taking over. They might not quite be done, you know? |
