A few weeks ago there was a discussion regarding the use of surgical tubing for mounting pickups in lap steels. Fender is now marketing "Pickup Tubing" pkg of 12 cut pieces, part number 099-0420-000, should be available from many local music stores for those who don't want to buy online. Stew-Mac is cheaper per foot but then you have to pay shipping. I bought 6 packages of the Fender parts and used some in the last two Melbert Steels, seems to be the same material as the Stew-Mac part. The person who recommended it in the previous thread was correct. The surgical tubing is much easier to use than the springs. I'm not recommending one vendor over another. |

Hobby stores sell silicone fuel line in several diameters... pretty darn cheap if you've got a good hobby shop around. Obviously not talking about 'Hobby Lobby', at least the new one... RC airplanes, etc is what I'm referring to. _________________ New FB Page: Lap Steel Licks And Stuff: https://www.facebook.com/groups/195394851800329 |

It has been my experience that if you go into a real, local music store with a luthier on staff and you ask to buy some surgical tubing for mounting pickups, they will give it to you. They do not need to have Fender provide them with pre-packaged pieces of surgical tubing.
Or just go to the drug store and buy a foot of it. Buy a size larger as well because it is useful for protection if you like to put scissors, needle nose pliers and screw drivers in your pants pockets. _________________ Chris Lucker
