My guitar has 1 1/8" nylon tuners, white color, and for my compensators I got some grey ones, and I thought, cool, my compensators will be easy to differentiate from the regular tuners... except that they are a bit too long ( 1 1/4") and they don't fit well in the case. Last thing I want is to damage my changer. So, anybody's got the shorter nylon tuners? Colored would be great, but white would be fine. Thanks! |

Ha ha ha, well, I have neither the tools nor the inclination... Now, I just need to know if my rods are 1/8 or 3/32... It never ends! Maybe an x-acto knife would do the trick... |

Alex,
Don't try that with an x-acto..... as I'm sure that you value your fingers. There are a number of saws in the 5-10 dollar range available from Home Depot that will do the job.
I don't know where to buy the inclination..... |

Mentioning Xacto; they make a nice little aluminum mitre box and saw combination that would be great for trimming the tuners. It's not expensive and will do a good job of cutting them square. I know I've seen them at the HL stores. _________________ 1974 Marlen S-12 1968 Tele 1969 Martin D-35H |

you can manufacture alot of necessary parts with a hacksaw, a vise and a file.
lots of people swear by the swiss army knife and ducttape method of survival.
you could just shorten those ends by rubbing the long end on a coarse fille for a minute. |

A good wire cuter will always cut them off very nice.
Just keep the flat side against the piece you'll use.
You can rub it on a piece of sandpaper after cutting. _________________ aka "Lucky Kay"--Custom built Rittenberry SD10 3X5, Walker S/S, NV-112, and Hilton Pedal |

Yes, tuners that stick out past the endplate are a bad idea. They catch on the case, pant legs, or whatever seems to come within range. And, you can even bend the changer fingers if they hit something solid. Cutting them off is easy using a hobby-saw or hacksaw blade, and even easier and neater if you chuck them lightly in a drill. (The "spinning effect" guarantees the cut will be square and neat! ) |
