Well - it's that age old question once again: is it Hal or Weldon? The only clue I can think of is the singer. It's Dottsy singing and she sang "I'll Be Your San Antonio Rose" which I know is Weldon. So I'll say Dottsy w/ Weldon.
Susanna Clark (Guy Clark's wife) wrote "I'll Be Your San Antonio Rose." As the story goes - all the expatiate Texas songwriters up in Nashville were trying to write a hit. Susanna Clark up and wrote "I'll Be Your San Antonio Rose" and it hit - before any of the other Texans could step up.

| I vote Weldon. The lick at around 0:58 is the same lick as the intro to Connie Smith's "Where Is My Castle" . I listened to Weldon as the Opry staff steel player for many years.... When the Opry was still country. |

| That is Weldon. I heard Weldon on the Opry Rick, back years ago when I had the honor of playing there. He would often times back up someone, and pickers backstage would stand around and say after one of his turnarounds "If that doesn't make the hair stand up on the back of your neck, nothing will". He played with such feeling. |

Yes, that is Weldon, from Dottsy's album "The Sweetest Thing" which also includes the track "I'll Be Your San Antone Rose" - thanks for the interesting story, Robert. I did not know that Susanna Clark was Guy Clark's wife.
Dottsy was a protege of Johnny Rodriguez and recorded some side for RCA in the 1970s.
