I like the sound of this. Is Todd the same guy who builds the steels?

He can flat out play and what great tone. The man has done his homework.

it's like it came out of a time capsule.

Outstanding Todd!

Great stuff.

How about some notes on how you guys recorded this?
I know there's an somewhat active thread where someone wanted to capture this sound...

Can you let us in on how you did it?

Great to see this post, and sure appreciate the comments. The Barn Door Slammers started as a 5 piece band a few years back. Playing mostly Western Swing instrumentals from the 30's 40's and 50's, usually with a sit in vocalist .
We added a Bret Ervin as a vocalist a year or so back as well as a second fiddle player. We recorded this last March and released the CD last month. The Cd or digital downloads can be purchased on CD Baby at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/thebarndoorslammers
We may be posting a few other recorded tunes on youtube in the next week or so.

Jay,
We recorded Blue Guitar Stomp live, with the fiddle and bass in separate rooms.
We used no reverb and no effects . I used an early 50's Fender Pro. Mics on the amps and mics on the acoustic bass, fiddle and drums. I wish I knew more about the microphones used, but I do not have that info. Most of the tunes on the album I played my D-8 Joaquin Style Lap steel or a T-8 Clinesmith console. I also used Vance Terry's 1951 Bigsby on a few tunes.

Dennis thanks for posting the links!

As for the other post of Kevin Healy and the Barn Door Slammers. There is a video link when we played at the Western Swing Society with guest vocalists Mary Rondthaler. Kevin is a great fiddler who is an inductee in the Western Swing Hall of Fame in Washington. Since they knew Kevin there, they billed us as Kevin Healy and the Barn Door Slammers. The next night we played the Subdude Stringband Festival in Bellingham Washington as Dan Lowinger and the Barndoor Slammers, tho were just The Barn Door Slammers.

Wow - that's the kind of music I want to hear! Love the tone of the Clinesmith through that old Pro and the throaty Junior Barnard guitar tone. You guys nailed it. Oustanding!

My favorite Portland band! If you're in the area you need to be at the Landmark Saloon tonight to see them live. If you're not, I highly recommend you consider buying their CD. Todd has the link to CD Baby above.

If you love vintage western swing, you will love this band. There's nobody out there doing it any better than the Barn Door Slammers!
