my guess is that we all have a song or two that we can never get quite right
and we keep coming back to work on it over and over ,
the good thing is that it can't help but make us better players just by making us keep trying _________________ proud parent of a sailor

Sleep Walk. I've never heard anyone play it as well as Santo Farina, and I've heard the best over the years. I certainly can't. |

Two waltzes stymie me, because I can't find something I like.
Always Get Lucky With You and
Rose Colored Glasses.
Never yet found a simple embellishment that I like. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Always trouble with "I Sang Dixie""Set'em Up Joe"and anything by Jay Dee. As a matter of fact, I don't play like anybody else. Never have, and never will, but it's not because I wouldn't like to play like them. It's because they have a special talent that is far superior to mine, and no amount of practice can fix that. |

Halloween coming up brings to mind several songs that "haunt" me, so to speak. Some of those include:
Phantom 309 by Red Sovine
The Ride by David Allen Coe
Lost Highway Saloon by Johnny Bush
I Moved Into A Haunted House by the Compton Bros.
and of course...
I Created A Monster by Freddie Hart (early album on Kapp)! _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

On Herb's side point: I may be biased, but Bringing Mary Home is the best of those. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Mine is - "Stardust" by J.D. Walters. This has to be the most beautiful recording I have heard. I've been working at this so long I know all the notes - forward, backward, and inside out, etc. lol. It's just something about his approach that makes this particular song stand heads above others I have heard. I would pay big to be able to duplicate the incredible touch and finesse he puts on this song. It has been giving me fits for a long while now, but the process has taught me alot in other areas as well. If you haven't heard it, find a copy and give a listen. It is truly a lesson in "technique". Best Regards. |

For what it's worth, Buddy's "Nameless Shuffle" is a perpetual soundtrack in this wee brain. Not the sound of him playing it necessarily, but all the permutations a wandering mind can invent when it's not even trying... |

I agree with Lane 'Rose Colored Glasses' should have never been recorded and every now and again I get a senior moment with that 'Together Again' tho I have played it like 5 million times _________________ MSA CLassic SD-10

I tell folks that I can do 2/3 of all that Chet ever did on the road. I can open the case and close the case when it's over. That is 2/3 of the event. The other 1/3 part about playing a guitar between the two events escapes me. _________________ 5220 Gretsch
