The JERRY BYRD FAN CLUB has just posted three tunes we tho't you might enjoy hearing.
"Gold Coast Blues" is on the home page and there is some really nice bar movements on this tune, something not normally heard in todays' music or by a host of other long-time steel players. This is an excellent example of how well Jerry's old Rickenbacher and his Volu-Tone amp worked together. The sustain is unmatched and no gadgets were involved.
Hope you'll enjoy it.[/b] |

Really nice, Ray. The tone moves are the knob, not a pedal?
Do you think it's the C6/A7 tuning?
If so, the augmented chord comes from a forward slant on the C# E G strings, stretching those stacked minor thirds into stacked major thirds. |

Yes, the tone control is hand operated and not a more modern day Doo-Wah pedal like the rock bands use.
Jerry's foot pedal was for volume ONLY and operated in reverse to most standard foot pedals.
It was C6th/A7th...........Jerry's choice of the day.
Jerry routinely used reverse slants as well as forward slants. He knew no limitations. Some of his most beautiful work has been played entirely on single strings.........not speed picking........just nice, dreamy single string melodies.
Thanks for responding. |

Jerry never goes wrong. That use of the volume pedal reminds me of Alvino Rey.
After humming that first tune for a while I just noticed a similarity to the song "Twe Lonely People." |
