How does the Roland Cube 40XL compare to the 80XL?
Thanks
Jim

I tried both in my own home and they both sounded great. I kept the 80XL due to the extra power for pedal steel if I take the amp out. [ I usually use a GK MB200 amp head ].

I have the 40XL... I've never messed with the 80, but I'm happy with the 40. I'm using it for straight steel, so be aware of that. Some noted differences:
1.) Half the power, 10" speaker instead of 12".
2.) Looper has only half the time (who cares, right?)
3.) Lack of presence control (most steelers turn that way down anyway)
4.) Has the 'Power Squeezer' button that the 80 lacks, very useful for getting fuller sound at low volumes.

I also like it because it fits in the back set of my Harley touring bike... it's very small for the sound you get. If you're playing C6 pedal steel you'll probably want the bigger amp, but the 40XL is great for console steel, acoustic guitar, jazz guitar, and it makes some mean heavy metal noises as well, although I'm usually going to go with one of my tube amps for that kind of thing if necessary.
