I trying to find a good number for Curtis Hogue. Also can anyone advise if Gary Carter is still answering questions about Rains guitars?
One of my Rains will not completely lower its 6th string via the RKL to an F# as it is set up to do so. Also the same RKL will not allow string to completely return to pitch after release.
Worked two evenings and unable to resolve the issue. Hook Moore has offered great advise but I have not fixed the issue.
Thanks for any help.

Are you using a wound string on the 6th?
If so, try a plain string. I use a plain 22. |

You might have a string end struck in the changer. |

Just spoke with Gary Carpenter. What a great guy to talk with. He was vary patient with my questions and gave me a lot of advice.

Still at work Chris saving lives.....gonin' home and raising the hood.
Gary suggested backing off the split tuning screw
for string 6 that sets behind the tuner. Then go to neutral on the tuning adjustments screws, start retuning the RKL action. _________________ 2010 Rains 3x5 SD10, 2006 Rains 3x5 SD10 Powered by Quilter Tone Block 202 and 15' and 12' Custom Speaker cabs |

Thats what i did to mine Chuck, ajusted stop screw and set plastic tuning nuts on that sting to nutral or idle so they wasnt puting presure on the string, it cured the problem, and i think i had to reset my first string too cause its connected to that lever but dont remember for sure _________________ Rittenberry SD10, 2 nashville 112s with telonics speaker, behringer EPQ450 power amp, 705 pups, Telonics FP-100, live steel strings, mogami cords, wet reverb |

UPDATE......After talking with Gary Carpenter and Curtis Hogue I zeroed all adjustments for my 6th string.... B pedal and RKl and started over. Also upon advice I backed the split adjusting screw off.
The only trouble I have now is after lower my 6th string with my RKL it does not completely return, even with the return spring tight.
Must be binding on something. _________________ 2010 Rains 3x5 SD10, 2006 Rains 3x5 SD10 Powered by Quilter Tone Block 202 and 15' and 12' Custom Speaker cabs |

Hi Chuck,
Any chance you could forward me Gary's & Curtis's phone numbers.
I need parts for my Rains but cannot get a response to my emails from Curtis.
Thanks |

Still no luck getting my 6th string to return to correct tuning after lowering.
I guess I'm not a steel tech

Is the problem in the rod/lever or the fingers? _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Lift the 6th string off its nut roller (at the headstock) and check that that sucker rotates freely, a sticking roller can cause exactly what your experiencing with your 6th string. |

Chuck, to elaborate on my post:
Try pushing on the lower finger with a pen. Does it return accurately then?
If yes, then look to the pull rods, that they're not angled or bound up. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Heading out of town this weekend to see Marty Stuart and Connie Smith at Renfro Valley. Gonna continue to look. Guitar returns to within 10 cents of pitch. _________________ 2010 Rains 3x5 SD10, 2006 Rains 3x5 SD10 Powered by Quilter Tone Block 202 and 15' and 12' Custom Speaker cabs |
