Hi all,

Here's a song called "Start Over" written and performed by Dutch singer Ingeborg Helder.

I recorded the steel track in my previous home studio with an old ZumSteel (Stage One model) into an even older Boss SE-70 effects processor.

I did a one take on it and send it to the producer as a suggestion. He really like it so I told him I would send him an improved version of this spontaneous take (timing/pitch wise, etc)but he decided to use the first one, including the little flaws.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it (use HD quality). My good friend Patrick Drabe played the acoustic guitars:

There is no need to apologize for that. The steel part is gorgeous. Just the old SE-70? Wow. Did you add some compression too?

Wow, Earnest *blush*. That's quite a compliment coming from such a great and highly respected musician like you. Thanks for your kind words, sir. Your playing has influenced me a lot, I still have e.g. the Fools Gold LP's over here! And I spend countless hours trying to work out your steel parts on those songs alone. Same goes for your keyboards on those recordings Smile

Yeah, I just used the SE-70 straight into an ancient Creamware Pulsar 1 card in the computer with 13 ms of latency. (That all changed now since I recently completely upgraded my studio, although I still use the same SE-70 live through an Emmons Lashley LeGrand 600 amp).

All I used in the SE-70 was a little bit of EQ correction, a tiny touch of mono chorus, a bit of delay and speaker simulation. No compression there.

I wasn't involded during the actual mixdown but I asked the producer if he used any other effects and he said he just added a little reverb.

For some reason, my steel does sound thinner in the mix than it did over here when I did the overdub but this may have something to with the fact that he mixed it on a lower volume level than I did at home.

Once again, many thanks for your compliment! Coming from you, it means a lot to me.

Thank you too very much, Jon, Egil, Jody and Kevin!

@ Crowbear:

If you happen to be anywhere near Nancy tomorrow evening and you have the time, I'll be playing with Music Road Pilots at a country music festival there.

@ Egil:

And if you happen to be around Kristiansand on October 19th, I'll be playing with the same band at the Dark Season MusikkFestival. Would love to meet you guys if it's possible.

And if any of you y'all are in The Hague, The Netherlands next Thursday, I will play at a jam session with a couple of good friends of mine. Not a country gig (although we will do a few country songs) but I'm sure it'll be fun also playing the pedal steel guitar on some Cream, ZZtop, Hendrix, Jeff Beck and Joe Walsh songs for a change Whoa! Laughing

Cheers again!
