Heart of Texas Recording Artists Curtis Potter and Tony Booth will headline an afternoon show and the evening dance on Saturday, October 26 at the Heart of Texas Events Center in Brady, Texas. Tickets are $12.00 and are now on sale at the Heart of Texas Records office or by calling (325) 597-1895.
The show will be held at 2:30 PM and the dance will begin at 8:00 PM. Justin Trevino and Jade Jack will also be included in the performances.
Country singer/songwriter/guitarist Tony Booth grew up in Tampa, but launched his musical career in the Southwest. He made his professional debut with the Mel Savage Band and soon toured with Jimmy Snyder.
In 1968, after founding the band Modern Country, Booth began working in Las Vegas and from there moved to clubs in California. He renamed the group the Tony Booth Band and became the house band at the Palomino in California. He cut his first single, "Big Lonely World," with K-Ark and signed to MGM in 1970, where he had his first hit with a cover of Merle Haggard's "Irma Thompson."
The legendary Buck Owens took Booth under his wing and produced several successful recordings along with taking him on the road and giving him great career advice. Booth acknowledges the contributions of Owens in every performance.
Booth's career really took off in 1972 when he scored three Top 20 hits, including "The Key's in the Mailbox." The next year he had five more hits, including a cover of the Doris Day hit "Secret Love" and "When a Man Loves a Woman (The Way I Love You)."
In 1977, he recorded the single "Letting Go" with United Artists which charted as well. During the 1990s, Booth joined the Gene Watson's band touring across the country. He then semi-retired from the business and went into the trucking industry. Booth continued to play bass and entertain at the Alvin Opry on the weekends.
In 2007, Booth signed with Heart of Texas Records. His latest release is “Old School.â€
Curtis Potter has become a legend in Country Music focusing his career on the great Texas Dance Hall music featuring Honky Tonk standards and Western Swing favorites.
In 1959, Potter joined the Hank Thompson show. Hank was impressed with the young vocalist and invited him to front the Brazos Valley Band and play bass guitar for him. In the 13 years that Potter was with Hank, he traveled all over the United States, Europe, the Far East and even a much sought after Carnegie Hall appearance.
Potter’s first major hit was “You Comb Her Hair Every Morning.†That song would gather enough attention to become the catalyst of a forty year recording creer.
In 1973, a shuffle beat record titled “Walkin’ Talkin’ Breathin’ Case of Sorrow†was released by Potter to great reviews. It was followed by a Texas Dance Hall album with Darrell McCall and Ray Sanders. In 1978, Dave Franer signed Curtis to Hillside Records releasing two very successful projects.
In 1984, Potter helped to form Step One Records in Nashville. The label would become the largest independent in the world releasing projects on Gene Watson, Ray Price, Kitty Wells, Hank Thompson and Clinton Gregory.
Potter and Willie Nelson had a number one video on the label in 1995. “Turn Me Loose And Let Me Swing†was taken from the album “Six Hours At The Pedernales and teamed Curtis and Willie singing an album full of great classics and new favorites.
In 2005, Potter signed with Heart of Texas Records. Three very successful projects have followed including “Them Old Honky Tonks†“Chicago Dancing Girls†and “Down In Texas Today.†His latest release is “The Potter’s Touch.â€
