I have a new 8 string lapsteel with a single Lace Tonebar 10 pickup. It gives out a little too much "boom" on the bottom strings played trough my reissue Fender Champ. Is there a way of adding third knob and some wiring to solve this problem, there's room for that on the plate. Being an idiot with electronics I trust local shops + I try to keep things simple.
Thanks in advance.

You can buy a "Fish & Chips" EQ pedal for $30 at Guitar Center of Musician's Friend. I'd rather see you do that than hack the guitar.

By the way... NICE!

Like the great Bobby Koefer I like old strings + my first project with a "George L" is less boomy with 5 yrs old strings. But maybe I'll try that, thank you.

you could put a tone stack with a roll off in low freq's. it would be a double pot . two controls in one spot. a good repair tech could do it for you.

Maybe inside the control panel there is a capacitor running from a contact on the tone pot to the volume pot. You'll have to open it to see, and read the value of the capacitor

Sometimes changing the value of that capacitor can tame the tone. Example: If there's a .05 microfarad cap try a .02 mf cap. You might also check the value of the pots. I'm not sure what value pot that is suggested with the Alumitone pickup, but I would check on that.

I would try the least radical changes to the guitar circuit first because the Champ has only an 8" speaker and 6 watts. If you played through another amp with a larger speaker and more watts the guitar might sound great as is. Try the guitar through a larger amp before you do anything. That's my take.

Does the Champ amp have a bass knob?

Are you saying that there's too much bass, or are you saying that it's too dark, too little treble? They are two very distinct things.

Can't really see in the photo, but can you just lower the bass side of the pickup farther away from the strings?
