This needs to be at the TOP of the list! I talked to Russ, Laney's coming with him! We hope to see some old friends, and some new ones, too. Good band, good hot dogs, good fun. Good cause, too---ALL proceeds go to the Shriners' hospitals. Y'all come out and be with us! |

I wish I could, because I really enjoyed the two Saluda events that I attended; I lived in Asheville, NC then, so it's a geographical thing...
On Sunday, 12th, I'll be playing the last show of the current run of 'Always, Patsy....' in Vero Beach, FL, but I'll be with you guys in spirit!

Hey Guys and Gals,
Unless there is a major schedule conflict, this is always a go to show for me. Always a great show, good food, great friends and most importantly, a great cause. I think everyone is aware of this, but just in case, this show was established as a fund raiser for St. Judes Hospital, and over the years has made significant contributions. This is one show I'd love to see everyone "support", even if they can't attend.
As for the show itself, Russ and Laney are a real treat to see and hear. Russ is certainly one of the all time greats, with credentials a mile long, and if there is a better country singer out there than Laney, I haven't heard them.
Stephen, Wayne Smith won't be with us until Sunday, but Alan Coldiron, a great player I get to work shows with in Va and Pa, is vacationing in Myrtle Beach that week and is going to join us. No need to bring that "other guy".
See ya there,
Jim[This message was edited by Jim Hartley on 15 October 2006 at 06:55 AM.] |

Hartley, my brother, you ALWAYS come through!!! That means I get to play git-tar, and my new "tic-tac" Danelectro, at the jam!
Rick Campbell turned me own to a CD he'd made, where he plays ALL the instruments. I believe the boy could play a pair of Nikes if the laces were tight enough! It'll be a treat, hearing that good fiddle!
KEEP 'EM COMING!!!!! |

Hey Gaylon,
Sure hope you can make it. If anything comes up, just tell'm you're busy.
Stephen, I just got a call from Wayne Smith. Looks like he's gonna make it Sat night after all. We'll just be over run with bass pickers.
Rick, I know it's a steel show, but every now and then, I get a cravin' flung on me for a good fiddle tune. How bout workin' one in for me.
See ya there,
Jim |

Over run by bass players! Jim, is that possible? Its a nightmare come true ;P. Looking forward to a good time, a great cause, and a chance to meet new friends. What a kick off to a great vacation. You will be able to pick me out. I'm the one who hasn't figured out how to hold the bass (left handed). I think Wayne should play my bass just for fun. |

"Rick, I know it's a steel show, but every now and then, I get a cravin' flung on me for a good fiddle tune. How bout workin' one in for me."
Jim.. "flung" now that's an East Tennessee word for sure" maybe it related to "flew" as in "I flew mad", etc... anyway, per your request I promise to do you a fiddle tune. I'll bring the charts for Sally Goodin.. it's complicated - it goes 1 and 5 and then sometimes it goes 5 and 1 and most of the time it don't really make any difference.
Really looking forward to seeing everyone and doing some of that 4/4 - 3,4,1,2 ta, ta,........stuff.

It's gonna be a large time....I hope all the Georgia boys are there....I'm very anxious to lock horns with Tommy D. and maybe Larry S. as Randy Beavers is no longer a challenge...I may even challenge Rob Parker, or maybe even Laney, to a vocal joust....I think it's time that 'my public' is made aware of what my true calling is, and that's being UP FRONT.....that's where it's at. Singers get all the glory, not to mention the loot, while the steeler sits back there doing all the work, creating all the real music, and all for peanuts. Just look at Paul Franklin; works around the clock and drives a 1968 Nash Rambler....the only 'justice' in the steel guitar business is Fred. Sooo, in closing, I just want to let you know that my new CD that I'll have ready for Dallas will be me singing, not thrashing around on a steel guitar...I may let Laney sing a little background, that is if she's real nice to me.
In the meanwhile, at the Saluda show I will probably only play steel as like I said before I intend to mop up the floor with Dodd and Sasser, if they dare show up. I also need to work on my 'vocal delivery' for a little while before taking it public.
See ya'll soon.

Russ - You're vocal talents appear to be in the same category as my steel playing. That's why I only play steel when I'm in the shower. Look forward to meeting you at Saluda.

Remember I do have a recording of you singing 'Shake Your Booty'. I'm still having nightmares from it. I may have to bring it with me to the show.
Looking forward to a great time. |
