Topic: Goodrich 120 volume pot went bad?? Help! |

I was just jamming on the steel guitar rag and I noticed that my volume pedal stopped working and the volume is staying at a constant level. I am guessing that This is my first time experiencing a pot dying on me? Can anyone recommend a good replacement pot for the Goodrich 120? It is a string pedal (I dont know if that matters or not). If anyone happens to have a spare, or a new one that they would sell me, please email me or PM me. Thank you very much.

| Take the plate off the bottom and look at the string setup. Sounds like something happened to the string and the pot shaft is no moving. When a pot goes bad you get weird scratching sounds or no sound. Good Luck in solving the problem. |

Odd thing? I opened her up and the string was fine? I plugged it all back in and it worked fine ! What could have caused it to temporarily not function at all?

Jeff - Tale a close look at the connections to the pot and jacks. Sounds like something is shorting out, or in your case, shorting ON. Look at the connections on the pot, a small piece of wire might be touching between the solder joints on the pot, causing it to remain on.

The fact that the volume stays at the same level means the pot is not turning. So, the string is slipping because it's loose, or because the pot is gummed up.
Put 1/2 drop of oil where the shaft goes into the pot bushing, work the pedal a few times, and your problem will likely disappear.  |

If the string is on properly (wrapped around the set screw) there is no way the pedal can move up and down without the pot turning unless the pot is loose and turning in its mount or the set screw is loose. It these are tight I think the problem was in the cord or as someone said a bad connection or a stray strand of wire.
