My factory 1974 MSA case is plastic (similar to skb products) The inside of the lid appears to be missing a piece of foam. The original glue marks remain. There is a tray that sits on top of the guitar to hold it down. The lid closes over the tray and I assume the foam pad holds the entire stack in place when the closers are tightened. Does anyone have information re the actual thickness of the pad and where I might source it?
Thanks in advance.

I'm also curious. I have a similar case, plastic SKB style, with my MSA Semi-Classic. The wheel have started to chip and break away. I was hoping replacement parts would be had. Also the inerds could be better. I was hoping to fit the guitar in there better. Right now it just mashes into soft foam. The guitar doesn't rest on the body like most cases do. The guitar just rests on the foam at the strings, changer and roller nut.
I was hoping to rebuild and fit it in there so the guitar rests on the body with the neck suspended. I think thats right... _________________ MSA Semi-Classic

I remembered where I saw that product. It was used to insulate the inside of a snowmobile hood. Black closed cell foam with adhesive backing. Now to figure out where to buy it. It is not something a snowmobile dealer would stock. I would be happy just finding closed cell 5/8" or 3/4" black foam. I can handle the glue part.

The foam in mine was ordinary 1/2" firm (open-cell) polyurethane, but just about anything close will work, since all it does is hold the tray in place. The foam in mine lasted about 10 years before it dried up and fell out, and I consider that pretty good performance. |
