I've been watching this video of suzy bogguss singing
I Cant Help It (If I'm Still In Love With You). On
the window in the background it say's American Music
shop. The steel player is playing a double neck eight
I know it's not a fender. Anybody know who the steel player is, and also the fiddle player and what make steel that is. I love to play along with this video, and the band is tight as a Ducks A, I, W. There playing in Bb. Great singing and great Hank song too. Jerry Douglas huh. Well I guess if you can play a Dobro you can play a double eight steel. Theres a D-10 Emmons on the bandstand. I wonder If he's
the one that plays that on other songs. Thanks Jerry, By the way, Do you know what make that double Eight is? Pickup covers indicate it might be a Supro.... some of the non-pedal guys will know. I don't think Jerry plays pedal steel and seems like if the Emmons was his, he'd be standing next to it. Terry Crisp used to play with Suzy..... maybe him? _________________ Jerry Jones |

Jerry told me he quit playing pedal steel some years ago because it messed with his dobro hand technique. Hadn't heard of him changing his mind but there's a lot I don't hear about, for certain he can do it if he wants to...

Better shot of the band and the Supro? in this clip:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUDmX7QGohM
These studio aces are probably the "house band" for the American Music Shop, which I think was filmed out at Opryland. I see Brent Mason in this clip too.
Edited to add: Looks like the first clip is a D8 National and maybe a single neck Supro on the above link.

That is Jerry Douglas on lap steel, Mark O'Conner on fiddle, Harry Stinson(Marty Stuart Show)on drums, Brent Mason on guitar, do not recognize the keyboard player, (Matt Rollins currently with Lyle Lovett's band I believe normally filled that spot), sorry, the bass players name escapes me. |

Whew! Wow great playing on, The Other Side Of The Hill. Those guys look pretty young there. Must of been ten or fifteen years ago. Well I wont be playing along with that song anytime soon! To fast for the old cat. Lee..Closer to twenty years ago. That show was a staple on the now defunct 'TNN' (The Nashville Network). Good news: I recorded and saved a great many of them on VHS..Bad news: Have been unsuccessful in transfering them to DVD, finished product always of poor quality. Considering having a select few of my favorites transfered professionally. |
