Well, I've finally done it! I've been asked to write out tab for some of my arrangements the last several years. I have just completed the tab and CD package for Bach's "Minuet In G." I originally learned the song to use as background music for a DVD of newborn baby pictures. But the more I played and listened to the song the more I "got into it." Some of you may have heard it in the Extended Family section where I announced the birth of a new granddaughter.
One the first recording I played the song in B flat, (that's why I called it Minuet in B flat), but I've moved the song to C so it can be played on a standard E9th tuning. Of course the original was in G but I didn't like the sound of it there.
I do believe the song is for intermediate to advanced players, but even the beginner with practice should be able to play the majority of movements. This piece can also be a good tool for learning different fingering.
Cost is $20.00 plus $2.00 shipping. This also includes a CD with the song at normal tempo, then about half speed so you can hear and play along with. I believe this can really help when learning some of the different patterns and fingerings.

I liked it so much I had to write it out for banjo. Makes a pretty good banjo tune - as far as Bach pieces go. I'll probably try it on steel next time I play the thing.

It was beautiful!
What more can be said.
Your rich tone and clean definition.....
The variations you played from chorus to chorus and the notable chord structures you incorporated.........WOW!
A Refreshing example of what steel guitar is capable of delivering. Great job! |

Thanks folks. This tune does kinda grow on you. I guess you could also say this song has withstood the test of time. About 182 years! |

Way more than 182 years, hoss. Bach's been dead for more than 250 years.
It was from Bach's 'Anna Magdalena Notebook' and was written in the 1720s. More like 282 years ago.

Excellent arrangement. It's near impossible to play the actual piece on pedal steel, even though it's a very simple student level piano piece. Your choice of which left hand notes to omit and your choice of harmony put your own signature to it.
Thanks for sharing.

Randy: Received my tab and CD yesterday. Great tab and you're right, the melody grows on you. I've been going around all day humming that tune. Great warm up exercise too. Thanks. |

Thanks Johnny. I know what you mean. I went to bed with that melody in my head, and then would wake up with it also. |

Catchy tune isn't the word for it. Can't get the tune out of my head since the first time I heard it. Only Randy can come up with something like this and say" hey I think I'm going to work this out for the steel". Got me copy couple of days ago and will be sitting down for some serious work on this piece. Simply put...it's a fun little tune and a great practice piece for warming up. Thanks Randy Beavers for just being Randy Beavers
