I have an opportunity to buy an ETS for a good price. . What do you guys think of them? I understand one of the bulders lost his life in a tragic accident and they aren't being made at this time. Correct? Would that make it hard to get parts for? Any input appreciated.

I played one for awhile at the TSGA in March - tragically, that very night Larry, who I enjoyed meeting that day, passed away. I liked the guitar a lot. I know people who have toured with them and been very happy. A great guitar for someone who has to fly with one. I can't comment on the parts issue, but these are definitely good guitars - if you get a decent price on one it is hard to see how you can go seriously wrong. If it turns out that it is not a forever guitar for you someone will happily take it off your hands.

I can't see them being anything other than top notch.
The surviving founder was Bud Carter, so it'll be a good guitar, and I bet you could get parts from him.

The ETS is a great guitar. Very light weight. Bud is trying to get the guitar back in production without a partner. This should happen by the first of the year. If you have a chance to buy one get it. Dale

I was very happy with mine. I regret that I had to sell it a while back. It was a real good instrument.

It is a great guitar. I managed to buy one with spare parts.
I also bought additional spare parts from Al Brisco.
Al also gave me some tips how to deal with specifics for this guitar.

The window with the nylon tuning nuts should be a bit bigger,
because you cannot get the tuner key into the window
on nuts that are closest to the window edge, without damaging the paint.

Hi,
I too own an ETS steel. Mine was slightly used and had some unorthodox changes and parts underneath. I sent it to Bud Carter himself and within a week he had the guitar set up to factory specs and charged a very fair price for his time. I can't thank him enough. The guitar plays and sounds like a dream!
I love the guitar and would buy another in a flash as a spare.
If you should decide not to keep your ETS I'll buy it for sure. Just let me know if and when.
Good luck...

Like Bob Blair I too tried an ETS at the Dallas show, and although not in the market to buy another guitar, I was impressed by it.Any guitar with a connection to Bud Carter is bound to be good.Heard it demonstrated by Al Brisco with a little Walter amp, sounded superb.I was saddened to hear of Larry's passing on the Saturday ,as it was Larry I spoke to on the Friday when I tried it, a great loss to the steel family.I hope Bud gets ETS back up and running, anyone wanting a great little light weight guitar at what was a good price should check them out.

I love my ETS. Before his tragic death Larry Agan helped me with setup and parts and upgrades. He sold me a custom-wound single-coil pickup that really brought it to life, it sounds superb! The all-aluminum body gives great sustain, light-weight and so easy to pack and go.
